Introduction:

Pain and Palliative Care Medicine and Critical Care

The department of anaesthesia was established in follows an integrated approach and standard protocols in patient’s care, education and research. We are a team of 20 faculty members, 7 Senior Residents, 24 Junior Residents dedicatedly working to provide anaesthesia and critical care to patients for routine and emergency cases. Our department runs a pre-anaesthesia checkup clinic from Mon-Sat from 9am to 4pm. We also have a team of doctors specialized in running Palliative and Pain management clinic.

Keeping pace with the development of medical services, anaesthesia services are provided for a variety of surgical cases including:

Facilities:

Critical care  

The department is running Intensive Care Facility (14 bedded Surgical ICU, 12 bedded CTVS ICU) and managing emergency calls/ code blue cover to other ICUs, HDUs and wards.

PAC clinic

The department is running successful PAC clinic daily and provides round the clock and bed side PAC services in emergency and sick patients.

Pain and palliative care 

The department is running a successful pain and palliative care clinic, and provides round the clock bed side pain management services. We work in collaboration with other department for managing various chronic pain ailments like back pain, headaches, joint pain, neuralgias, muscle pain etc.

Services provided under Pain and Palliative care are:

  • Out  -  patient services (Pain clinic) 
  • Acute and Post-operative Pain management
  • Chronic pain management
  • Cancer pain management and supportive care
  • Interventional procedures for acute, chronic and cancer pain

 

Department also manages autoclave and sterilization services

Academic activities

At present, our institute is training 150 undergraduate (MBBS) students in each batch. Anesthesiology department is actively involved in taking lectures and providing clinical training to the students as per NMC guidelines.

Post graduate course (MD Anaesthesia) is being conducted in the department. A total of 24 junior residents are presently pursuing MD in the department recognized by NMC. All post graduates are regularly rotated in different specialties to gain exposure. Classes are taken daily for the post graduate students in the form of lectures, case discussions, seminars, tutorials and journal clubs. Postgraduate student are encouraged to do research work to broaden the spectrum of their knowledge. All faculty members are actively involved in publishing papers and research work in various national and international journals.

Department is actively involved in organizing and participating in national and international conferences.

PDCC (Post doctoral certificate course) 

Department is running PDCC Course in ( Neuro-anesthesia and Neuro critical care , Critical care , Pain and palliative care ,CTVS anesthesia ) since 2020 which is recognized by SGRR University . These senior residents are posted in their respective sub specialties and have regular tutorials, case discussions as per PDCC curriculum.
