Critical Care Medicine

The Department of Critical Care Medicine is a specialized unit dedicated to treating patients with life-threatening conditions and organ failure, who require life support systems and intensive monitoring. The department comprises two Intensive Care Units (ICU 1 & 2) with a total capacity of 34 beds. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by a team of highly qualified professionals, the department operates 24/7 to provide top-quality care to critically ill patients. It serves a large influx of severely ill patients, continuously striving for the best outcomes.

Team

The Critical Care Medicine team consists of highly skilled and qualified multidisciplinary Intensivists, trainees, nurses, technicians, and respiratory physiotherapists who work around the clock, fully committed to ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

Academic & Research Activities

The department's faculty members are actively engaged in research and regularly deliver lectures in the institute and also at various conferences and workshops.

  • Advanced airway management
  • Percutaneous tracheostomy
  • Hemodynamic monitoring, including minimally invasive cardiac output monitoring techniques
  • Invasive vascular procedures: central venous line placement, arterial line placement, and dialysis catheterization
  • Ultrasonography: lung ultrasound, e-FAST, echocardiography, and hemodynamic assessment
  • Renal replacement therapy: peritoneal dialysis, SLED (Sustained Low Efficiency Dialysis), and CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
  • Bronchoscopy for bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and pulmonary toileting
  • Lumbar puncture and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
  • Abdominal paracentesis
  • Thoracentesis
  • Intercostal drain (ICD) tube placement
  • Nutritional planning tailored to critically ill patients
