Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)-Know your Rights On, 23.12.2017
A CME on “Intellectual Property Rights” was organized by Central Molecular Research Laboratory, Biochemistry Department on 23rd December, 2017. This Scientific event was inaugurated by Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar Mehta, SGRRIM&HS, D.Dun, Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Rai, Medical Superintendent, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Gulshan Kumar Dhingra, Associate Professor, PLMS (PG) Degree College, Rishikesh, who was also the Guest of Honor as well as Guest Speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Nita Garg, HOD Biochemistry & Dr. Narotam Sharma, Scientist, Central Molecular Research Laboratory, SGRRIM&HS, D.Dun. Prof. (Dr.) Nita Garg gave the welcome address followed by the release of a Book cum Training Manual, entitled, "Basics of Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics-A Training Manual", written and Edited by Dr. Narotam Sharma. Thereafter Dr. Gulshan Kumar Dhingra, Associate Professor P.L.M.S Government Post Graduate College Rishikesh, talked on Intellectual Property Rights. He focuses how Intellectual property rights are like any other property rights that allows creators, or owners, of patents, trademarks or copyrighted works to benefit from their own work or investment in a creation. He focuses on the basic differences between a patent and copyright. Any kind of newly discovered product, protocol, can be patented so that it will be an asset to the discoverer. He showed many important innovations in health sectors which got patents and is now benefitting humankind. He told that the top five Medical Technology Innovations that have been patented and proved gift to the medical sector includes; Cutting Back on Melanoma Biopsies machines, Electronic Aspirin, Needle-Free Diabetes Care, Robotic Check-Ups and A Valve Job with Heart. On this occasion Prof. (Dr.) Seema Acharya, also talked on Applications of flow cytometry in Clinical Diagnostics.
Dr. Gulshan Kumar Dhingra is also coordinator for many projects with Uttarakhand Council for State Science & Technology (UCOST), Govt. of Uttarakhand. In upcoming days, Central Molecular Research Laboratory will be Uttarakhand State Council will issue a Centre for IPR, once a formal latter For Science & technology, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, which will be beneficial for the academic rise of the Shri Guru Ram Rai University. At the end, Dr. Narotam Sharma gave vote of thanks. CME was well attended and appreciated by the faculty members and Biomedical students from Different colleges and Universities
