REPORT OF ‘WORLD HEALTH DAY – 2021’  OBSERVATION AT THE INSTITUTEEvery year since 1950, World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 to drive home the paramount need and importance of healthcare. In more than 50 years since its inception, World Health Day has cast a spotlight on pressing issues ranging from mental health to maternal health and childcare. The occasion also features activities that go beyond the day and attempt to bring worldwide attention to important issues that affect us all equally and there's a need to prioritize them. Each year's theme is different from the other. World Health Day 2020 celebrated the role of the nurses and midwives, the frontline medical staff who play an essential role in healthcare delivery. This year, on April 7 2021, on the occasion of World Health Day, the theme would be the need of the hour in a post pandemic world: building a fairer, healthier world.

Department of Community Medicine observed the World Health Day on 6th and 7th April 2021. On 6th April around 10 am the event started with wonderful slide-show presentation by the 3rd semester MBBS students in the department where the staff of the department were made aware about the day and issues pertaining to it. Dr. Puneet Ohri, Professor and HOD, department of Community Medicine spoke about the importance of celebrating the World health day every year. He also briefed on the current scenario related to COVID pandemic in world and India. Dr Megha Luthra, Dr Kajal Gupta , Dr Sai, Dr Spandana and Dr Rahul Sharma also shared their views with the MBBS students on importance of creating awareness among the family members and general public regarding hand hygiene and other precautionary measures like mask etiquettes and social distancing. In the afternoon there was a very informative seminar presentation by Dr Rahul Sharma (1st Yr PG) and Dr Fouzia (1st Yr PG). Dr Rahul briefed how we can act beyond the national boundaries in order to curb this menace of COVID-19 pandemic whereas Dr Fouzia highlighted on how to achieve equal access to quality health services for the poor and disadvantaged population.

On 7th April 2021 the faculties posted in Urban and Rural health centers conducted various community related activities. Health awareness talk was given by the faculty members posted in the health centers. People were told all about the day, its importance and significance were explained. The slogan of the day was also explained to the people. The crowd was also made aware to spread the knowledge about the importance of wearing mask and washing hands properly. In addition to these, posters were displayed with the help of which imparting the knowledge was made simple and easy. At the end of the session people were prompted to ask questions that cleared doubts related to health care.
