MODERN TECHNIQUES OF PREVENTING AND TREATING CERVICAL CANCER EXPLAINED

Dehradun. A One Day Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) Programme Cum Workshop was organized jointly by Deptt. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Uttarakhand Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists and Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI). In the programme, knowledge was imparted about prevention and cure of Cervical Cancer via live Colposcopy Workshop. This is for the first time in Uttarakhand that around 200 renowned gynaecologists from reputed Medical Colleges and institutions from Jammu Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Mumbai and various states of India gathered under one roof.
On Sunday, the programme was initiated at the auditorium of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital by Chief Guest Dr. S. Shantha Kumari, President, Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and Special Guest Dr. Shailaja Bhatt, Director General Health, Uttarakhand jointly by lamp lighting.
In her address, Dr. S. Shantha Kumari said that Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) is doing a highly credible and commendable work in whole of India. She said that FOGSI is ensuring the success of research and advancements being undertaken in the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists all over India on national and international levels. She said that FOGSI is an organization which is a parent figure for the Obstetricians and Gynaecologists all over India. She said that Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists from every part of India will always find FOGSI standing for their both personal and professional well being all the time. She said that it’s the responsibility of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists to lead the task of spreading awareness in the society for the prevention, testing and treatment of Cervical Cancer. She appealed the Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists to keep modern literature in their clinics explaining the symptoms, prevention and treatment of Cervical Cancer readily available for the patients. She also emphasized that Obstetricians and Gynaecologists must prefer and try of normal vaginal delivery instead of cesarean deliveries.
Speaking over the occasion, Dr. Shailaja Bhatt highly praised the works of FOGSI all over India. She urged FOGSI to act as an efficient bridge and representative between the Govt. and Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of India.

Dr. Priya Ganesh Kumar, Chairperson, FOGSI, explained the significance of vaccination in the prevention of Cervical Cancer. She informed and emphasized that Cervical Cancer vaccination is good for the health of females as well as males.
During the Workshop, Dr. Priya Ganesh Kumar carried out the Live Colposcopy Workshop during which live operations of the patients were carried out. During this, the doctors and P.G. students were explained via live demonstration that how to recognize and diagnose any infection of cervical which will turn into Cervical Cancer in future.
A Panel Discussion was also carried out under the guidance of HOD of Obs & Gyn of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Vineeta Gupta. Other members in the Panel Discussion were Dr. Sumita Prabhakar, Dr. Bani Shree, Dr. Rahul Modi, Dr. Reena Ahuja, Dr. Amrita, Dr. Yamini Knasal and Dr. Namrata Saxena. In the programme, Dr. Jyoti Sharma and Dr. Archna Singh, Secretary, Uttarakhand Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists also threw light over various research assignments being conducted over Cervical Cancer.
