Sunday. A One Day Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) Programme was organized today by the Eye Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences under the aegis of Uttarakhand State Ophthalmogiocal Society (UKSOS) on the topic ‘The Retina in Systemic Diseases’.
Dr. Prakriti Pokhriyal of Eye Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital gave a Welcome Address to the participants. She said that the objective of this C.M.E. Programme is to update every participant on diagnosing the Retina disease of the eye in the initial stage only and to exchange knowledge over the ultra modern techniques of treating them.
This C.M.E. Programme that was organized at the auditorium of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital was started jointly by lamp lighting by Principal, SGRRIM&HS, Dr. Ashok Nayak, Registrar, Research & Development, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Pankaj Mishra, President UKSOS, Dr. Vinod Arora and HOD, Deptt. of Eye, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital & Organizing Chairperson of the programme, Dr. Tarannum Shakeel.
Dr. Ashok Nayak in his address to the gathering, said that these types of C.M.E. Programmes are ideal platforms for healthy discussion and exchanging ideas on diverse topics. He said that SGRRIM&HS has always been pioneer for organizing such programmes.
After this, the first speaker of the programme, HOD, Deptt. of Eye, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences & Retina specialist, Dr. Renu Dhasmana gave lecture on ‘Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Kidney Disease’. She shared knowledge over recognizing Retina diseases in Diabetic and Kidney patients and modern methods to treat them.
Retina specialist of Drishti Eye Institute, Dr. Saurabh Luthra spake over the topic, ‘X-Files to multitude of interesting cases with retinal manifestations’ in which he explained the cases of Retina diseases that have in front of him in his career of Retina specialist and the ways to treat them.
Retina specialist of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. Ramanuj Samanta gave presentation over the topic, ‘Tuberculosis and Retina’. He threw light over Retian diseases which come across in Tuberculosis patients. He gave tips on diagnosing these diseases in the starting phase only and shared knowledge on techniques to treat them.
Retina specialist of Amritsar Eye Clinic, Dr. Anuj Sharma presented the topic,‘Retinal manifestations of Hypertension’. He explained the diagnosing and treatment of retinal diseases that occur as a result of high blood pressure.
Retina specialist of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Sreeram Jairaj presented the topic, ‘Retinal side-effects of systemic drugs’ and explained the side on retina by medicines taken to treat any disease.
After this, a quiz completion was organized on topics related to retina for the students pursuing P.G. in Ophthalmogy. In the quiz, First position was won by Dr. Paritosh Shukla and Dr. Keerti of AIIMS, Rishikesh, while the Second position was won by Dr. Priyanka and Dr. Anmol of Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences and the Third position was won by Dr. Poonam and Dr. Rachit of G.M.C., Haldwani. All the winners were honoured with prizes. The Quiz competition was conducted by Dr. Vatsala Vats of Deptt. of Eye, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital.
HOD, Deptt. of Eye, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and SGRRIM&HS, Director SMI Eye Bank and Organizing Chairperson of the programme, Dr. Tarannum Shakeel. She said that this C.M.E. Programme has been successful with the divine blessings of Chairman, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and SGRRIM&HS, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj. She said that SGRRIM&HS frequently organizes such programmes which update the knowledge of doctors as well as students studying P.G. Courses.
More than 100 Ophthalmologists and student studying P.G. in Opthalmology participated in the C.M.E. Programme.
Significant roles were also played by Dr. Tariq Masood, Dr. Sanjeev Mittal, Dr. Shanti Pandey, Dr. Gaurav Luthra, Dr. Munindra Rawat, Dr. Sangeeta Jain and Dr. Smita Mehra in making this C.M.E. Programme a success.
